“The Hard Way” – Song Lyrics

July 26, 2005

8/1986

Yes I know that our love’s getting colder,
And I know that what we had is gone,
And before this old love gets much older,
We have got to build it up strong.

CHORUS:
Yes and I learned my lesson the hard way,
Whatever we try to do
Is gonna hurt me and you.
Yes and I learned my lesson the hard way,
Not with love and open arms,
But with pain and scars,
Yes and I learned my lesson the hard way.

And whenever I think about the future
All I see is us breaking apart,
What we need is some love and some laughter,
What we need is to give from the heart.

SPOKEN: And I know

CHORUS:
Because I learned my lesson…

I wish that our love would grow stronger,
I wish that our problems were gone,
But now I know that we will stay together,
And we’ll try to rebuild this love strong.

CHORUS:
Yes and I learned my lesson…

  1. Did you have music to these lines too?

  2. I do (and I did).

I still remember the chorus — it was kind of a country-rock swinging thing, but the verses escape me!

  3. What instrument do you play?

  4. I was an acoustic guitar player, but my particular passion is singing… Or you could say, I play my vocal instrument.

  5. why does that not surprise me? as a poet

  6. memories 🙂
    Hi Daniel!
Thanks for swinging my my blog and your insightful words about my poem “Passages.” I’ll be back again. Off to paint more on that collage I’m working on. Soon, I’ll be posting more poems on my blog. Have a super weekend! 🙂
